Notes
The purpose of the Church, both back in Ephesus and today, is to grow in our relationship with Jesus, live it out, and invite others into that relationship.
True satisfaction is found when we know who God says we are. When we allow Him to define us, our identity is no longer controlled by our circumstances. So how do we live a rich and satisfying life in Christ and actually live it out with purpose?
1) True Satisfaction Comes From Experiencing the Love of Christ and the Work of Christ
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
Ephesians 3:16-20
God’s Spirit dwells in our hearts. As we trust Him, our lives become rooted in His love. True satisfaction comes from experiencing the love of Christ - His mercy and the full forgiveness He paid for on the cross. Before we can live it out, we have to receive it. If we don’t, we will keep striving to define our worth by what we do or what happens to us.
May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
Ephesians 3:19-21
When we receive God’s unconditional love, it opens the door for His grace and power to work in our lives. God is able to do infinitely more than we could ask or imagine through His power at work within us. True satisfaction comes when we recognize that His power is not distant - it is actively working in and through us.
2) True Satisfaction Comes When We Know What God’s Power Is Doing Through Us
God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 3:10-11
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10
God’s purpose is to use the Church to display His wisdom and power to the world. Together, we are His masterpiece, created to do the good works He planned for us. Our lives are meant to be a display of His love and power. This doesn’t mean life will be easy. We will face trials, challenges, and sacrifice. But even in those moments, we become a testimony of who God is. Sometimes the very circumstances we walk through become the place where God is most clearly seen in us.
In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.
Luke 15:10
Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
Matthew 16:18
You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
Matthew 5:14
When we give our lives to Christ and receive the goodness of our Creator, choosing to give our allegiance to a good God in an evil world, heaven applauds. When we display great faith in Him, hell trembles.
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
Psalm 139:13-14
God created us intentionally and wonderfully. Our identity is not shaped by what happens to us, but by who He says we are. We don’t give our allegiance to the enemy because of our circumstances. We give our allegiance to God in spite of them, trusting His plan, His goodness, and His power. No matter our past, our failures, or what we face, God still loves us. And through His power, our lives can become a testimony of who He is and what He can do.
